Overview:

This position is responsible for teaching courses for Chamberlain College of Nursing. The Assistant Professor provides the educational focus of teaching (classroom and/or clinical), academic advising, and committee work in the nursing programs. Service to the College, community, health system, and profession, and scholarly activities are integral aspects of this position.



Responsibilities:
  • Implements the College's philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through classroom, clinical teaching, and service to the College, community, health system and profession.
  • Develops curricular/teaching innovations in the annual preparation and revision of all assigned course(s).
  • Assumes responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads.
  • Participates in academic advisement and counseling for an assigned group of students while participating in assessment of potential and real counseling concerns for all students with whom the faculty come into contact.
  • Plans clinical experiences for and provides supervision and evaluation of nursing students delivering nursing care to an individual or group of individuals.
  • Supervises and evaluates clinical preceptors utilized in student clinical experiences.
  • Makes self available to staff at clinical agencies where students are present.
  • Evaluates and provides documented feedback to student on level of performance based on course objectives.
  • Assists with remediation of students as required or needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies, procedures, and expectations with the assistance of the agency/clinical personnel.
  • Develops and posts written clinical assignments consistent with student's knowledge base, skill competency and individual learning needs.
  • Corrects and returns homework, quizzes, tests, lab assignments, clinical paperwork and other written work in a timely manner.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the programs and the College.
  • Serves as a positive professional role model for students, assisting in their professional/social development.
  • Serves as role model for other faculty and staff in the areas of customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, and general professionalism.
  • Utilizes relationship skills in situations requiring group problem solving, consensus building, and win-win negotiation.
  • Demonstrates scholarship through the following activities: academic course work; active involvement in implementation of teaching, service, professional practice, or research projects; or formal publication in scholarly works related to nursing and/or education or presentations to professional audiences.
  • A faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor demonstrates basic leadership within the College by accepting or initiating, as part of the workload, responsibility for activities such as:
    • Mentoring new faculty members.
    • Chairing work groups that contribute to preparation for accreditation visits.
    • Gathering and analyzing data related to the College Assessment Program.
    • Developing leadership skills through formal course work or continuing education.
    • Chairing a College committee.
    • Participating in activities outside the College.
    • Serving on a College committee.
    • Serving as course coordinator or architect.
  • Handles related duties as assigned. Qualifications:

Masters degree in nursing required; doctorate preferred. Professional nurse licensure required. Minimum of two years' experience within last five years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse. Must have clinical expertise and maintain clinical competencies and agency requirements. Excellent communication skills with a high level of initiative and prudent judgment. Minimum of two years teaching experience required.
